Synthetic Light Sources

Mathematically generated light sources with simple yet powerful controls

Synthetic HDRI light controls HDRI light shapes

Rectangular, Circular and Hexagonal synthetic lights are adjusted using simple controls based on real-world light attributes. This makes it easy to generate a wide range of lighting effects. Lights are described in terms of a bulb producing the light, the length and position of that bulb and how that light falls off away from the bulb within the shape of the light.

Fall Off

Lights can have 4 types of fall off - which controls how the light brightness changes from the center to the edge of the light: Flat, Linear, Cosine and Custom. With the Custom Fall-off setting, users can create very complex curves and represent a huge range of lighting effects.

Blend Modes

The new blending modes allow synthetic lights to interact with the underlying content, such as other lights, or especially useful when used on top of a HDRI background image.
