Deep Exploration 6.0 and HDR Rendering

Deep Exploration version 6.0 saw the introduction of new HDR rendering capabilities. A HDRI environment image surrounds your geometry providing lighting and reflections in a totally accurate way. This is previewed in the real-time view port so you can see how the lighting and reflections interact with your 3D model.

HDR based rendering is ideal for visualising objects in outdoor settings. But what if you want to create clean and well lit photo-real images suitable for brochures and advertising? You wouldn’t photograph a new product in the middle of a market square or a countryside setting, which is typical of the HDR environment images you can buy. For quality marketing images you need a photographic studio!

Anyone familiar with photography will know that studio lighting techniques are used to produce professional looking product shots. A variety of light types are positioned around your object to get reflections and highlights in the right places to compliment the 3D form and to bring materials to life. If you move your viewpoint then you will need to reposition your lights. This is where fixed HDR images become limiting.

HDR Light Studio Live brings the power of photo studio lighting inside of Deep Exploration 6.0, making it easy to generate rendered images as real as a professional photo shot.

Synthetic Lighting System
At the heart of all versions of HDR Light Studio is the Synthetic Lighting System. This allows for the creation and placement of mathematically generated light sources on the canvas, resulting in visually perfect lights. Simple, yet powerful properties control the look and feel of the lights to generate almost infinite possibilities.

HDRI Light Packs (Pro version only)
HDRI Light Packs add hyper realistic image based light source collections to HDR Light Studio, extending the realism and creative possibilities for lighting design. HDR Light Studio Pro provides a comprehensive collection of soft boxes, spot lights and windows etc - providing users with endless possibilities that take renders to new levels of realism and creativity.

Background Synthesis
Using two gradient ramps for luminosity and color, users can design a simple or complex vertical gradient that sits behind your lights and surrounds your scene. This can be used to create an ambient background light level, or you can be more creative and generate synthetic sky conditions for different times of the day or night to add drama to your renders.
