HDR Light Studio™ started out life as an internal lighting tool at Protograph Visualisation Studios. It was released for sale on the software market in February 2009 to much critical acclaim. Since then it has been adopted by leading design and animation studios world-wide.

Lightmap Ltd:
Lightmap is a new business established to develop HDR Light Studio™ further and took over as the owners of the software with the release of version 1.5 in October 2009. The team is headed by CEO Mark Segasby, who's background is in 3D design and visualization, and CTO Simon C. Smith, who's background is in high performance programming for the games industry.
